Importance of Essay.

There is no fixed time that can be considered the best time to start writing a university application letter. However, there is a good time to start thinking about ideas or personal stories to write about – that time is now. Here at LEA EDUCATION we work together with students in all stages of the application, including the writing or rather the orientation of the letter of motivation, which is an essential part of the application and admission to institutions abroad. From experience, we notice that students focus more on the vocabulary they use than on the essence and purpose of the cover letter. Speak for yourself! Speak simply and logically of what your academic and personal life represents. The focus should be on the student’s goal in relation to the branch he follows, the connection he has with this branch and what are the goals after finishing this branch, all of these well supported with concrete and real elements from his academic and personal experience. A self-analysis of what they have learned so far, what they expect to deepen and what they expect to apply in the labor market later. Speak simply and logically> Don’t forget to speak for yourself! Applying to university requires a lot of emotional and mental energy, no matter how determined and motivated a student is to excel. There are many expectations from parents, comparisons with peers and individual pressures that make the whole situation “suffocating”. But the more time students give to everything, starting earlier, the more likely they are to make a successful and good application. Our conclusion is that students who work harder to accomplish some crucial application steps well in advance have an easier time later in the application period.

Many students face a block in ideas when it comes to writing about themselves, and over the years we have developed some easy strategies to facilitate the flow of ideas. Here are some tips:

  • List five adjectives – that friends use to describe you. Next to each one, think of a story/life event that connects you with that adjective and check if any of them point to something unique and show a special side of you.

  • Write without stopping – Just start writing. Do the “warm-up” for 20 minutes and give your thoughts time to form. For many this has worked as an ideal way to free their thoughts.

  • Write a little at a time – and think with the goal of writing a story. The application essay should tell the applicants who you are, without revealing parts of your CV or application. The best essays are the simple ones that describe meaningful moments.

  • Read and listen to personal essays – US National Radio’s “This I Believe” series features fantastic personal stories of famous people and
unknown that can be listened to as podcasts. The series “The Best American Essay” is another very good source to give way to your thoughts and in this link you will find some other very good essays of the New York Times newspaper.
